Dorrigo Highlanders Football Presentation
Principal's Message
We had a terrific time is Sydney last week. It was a pleasure attending the school camp with Lucy, Nikita and Quill to explore the highlights of our Capital city. We thank Dorrigo Public School for offering us this invaluable experience.
Did you see the photos of our Book Parade last week? Hats off to every student and staff member for enthusiastically dressing up for it. Oh, what fun we have here!
This week we will welcome our Home School Liaison Officer, Mark Logemann to our school. I will be meeting with Mark to check our school attendance procedures and student attendance rates. I urge all families to keep absences to a minimum if sickness is not the reason of a day off.
We are acknowledging the wonderful efforts of our school support staff this week for SASS Recognition Week 2023. Thank you, Melissa, Katherine, Suzie, Leanne, Chris and Glenn for everything you do to contribute to the smooth running of our school. Staff will share a morning tea on Wednesday to mark this occasion.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden News
Week 6
This week we ensured that our new fruit tree plantings had a good drink, collected horse manure to feed our asparagus plants, trimmed our rhubarb plants, and planted some celery seedlings. We harvested eggs, chives, English spinach, mushrooms and shallots.
In the kitchen we cooked cheese and corn quesadillas, mini zucchini frittatas, turkish spinach dip with home made pita crisps, mini banana bread loaves and dried mushrooms (for the show).
Cooking Award: Congratulations to Hunter McGuire for excellent clean up skills.
Week 7
Last week we concentrated on watering and feeding three of our citrus plants, preparing them for the warmer weather and growing season. We harvested eggs, garlic chives, silverbeet, kale, broccoli, purple cauliflower, purple broccoli, radishes and more yummy mushrooms that our 5/6 students have grown.
In the kitchen we cooked 3 different types of Turkish pide, greens and herb frittatas and banana cake.
Cooking Award: Congratulations to Hunter McGuire for outstanding leadership and persistence in the kitchen.
Book Week Parade
Read, Grow, Inspire was the theme for this year's Book Week celebrations. We had maximum excitement on Tuesday as all students and staff arrived dressed as their favourite book character. Following our parade, Mrs Sangster read 'Where the Lyrebird Lives' by Vikki Conley and Max Hamilton. A superb read and winner of the early childhood category.
Gumbaynggirr Language
Students have been learning all about colours with Lesley including traditional and non-traditional colours.
Kindergarten Transition Program
Beth and Lachie joined the K-2 class for some fun stories and science. We all put our creative hats on and made grass heads as part of our Living World unit.
Our next transition day is this Thursday, 7 September from 11.20am to 3.15pm.
Preschool Afternoons
Our next Preschoolers afternoons will be this Wednesday 6 September from 1.30pm to 3.15pm. Bring along a packed lunch/snack to join in with lunch and play with our students. Then there will be educational activities that help develop gross and fine motor skills as well as art and craft. All preschool children aged 1-5 welcome.
School Photos
Our 2023 school photos have been rescheduled to Tuesday 10 October. This is the first Tuesday back after the Term 3 holidays. All students will need to wear their best school uniform and a big smile for our school photos. So that everyone looks their best, we are asking that students please wear their sports shirts and full uniform (navy shorts or trousers). We also ask that students refrain from wearing long, multicoloured socks on that day. Short, dark or white socks would be preferred. Individual order forms have been sent home with your child/ren today, please check their bags. Please do not lose them as each student is only provided with one which will have a unique code. Envelopes must be returned by the last day of term with payment either enclosed or paid online to the photographer. Remember that Flood Funding can be used for purchasing photos. Please let Melissa know if you would like to use these funds.
SASS Recognition Week
This week is SASS week. Every year the Public Service Association organises SASS (School Administrative and Support Staff) Recognition Week to acknowledge the vital role that SASS Staff play in our schools across NSW. Recognition Week is an opportunity to show these staff that they are appreciated for the important role they play within the school whether they work in the office, the library, in the school grounds, in a classroom setting or in other roles. This week we thank Katherine, Suzie, Leanne, Chris, Glenn and Melissa for the truly wonderful work they do to ensure the smooth operation of our school. THANK YOU!
Term 3 Assembly
Please join us on Thursday 21 September at 2pm for our Term 3 Assembly. Students will present some of their learning from the term and a skipping extravaganza. Parents are encouraged to stick around for the Parents V Students game. Sport activity to be advised.
