District Athletics
Best wishes to our District Athletics competitors, Bailey, Jaxon, Nikita, Jack and Odie competing at Urunga on Friday. Go well and enjoy the experience!
Gubi Gabun Playgroup- starting this term

Every Day Matters
Attendance Matters
Please remember to explain all days away from school. This can be done in person, by phoning the school or sending a text to the school mobile: 0411 939 188.
Attendance Reminder-Late Arrivals & Early Departures
If your child/ren arrive late to school in the morning, please remember to sign them in the register book in the office. Alternatively, you can let a staff member know the reason to why they are late, and we will update the roll. This also applies for early departures from school in the afternoon. Three Way Parent / Teacher / Student Interviews
We will be holding our Three Way Parent / Teacher / Students meetings starting on Tuesday 13 August to Thursday 15 August. Each meeting usually only take 15 minutes per student.
This time instead of sending out an appointment sheet, we are asking for families to please phone the school on 6657 8133 to request a day and time that is suitable for you.
Dates available are Tuesday 13, Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 August starting from 3.30pm in 15 minute appointments unit 4.30pm each day.
Times and day will be given out as per call, so first in best dressed! This will hopefully eliminate doubling up on times and having to phone to re-organise.
We are looking forward to meeting with each learner and their parents/carers.
District Athletics Carnival
This Friday 2 August Jaxon Bennett, Odessa Budd, Nikita Cheers, Jack Duckett and Bailey Freeman will participate in the Bellinger Valley District Athletics Carnival at Urunga Sport and Recreational Grounds, Hungry Head Road, Urunga. The carnival will start at 9.15am and finish at 2.30pm.
Please ensure your child has packed recess and lunch on the day with plenty of water to drink. There may be a canteen operating on the day. Students may bring a small amount of money for a treat in case it is operating.
Teacher attending will be Ms McNeill and SLSO Katherine Lean. They will be travelling on the buses with our students on the day.
We will be joining with Dorrigo students at Dorrigo PS and travelling with them by bus to Urunga and return to Dorrigo PS. The Bus will depart at 8.45am sharp from the Bus Bay at Dorrigo Public School.
Students may catch Wykes bus to the Tyringham Store and then the town bus from Tyringham Store to Dorrigo PS and return in the afternoon on the town bus to Tyringham Store and then Wykes bus.
Total cost for this excursion is $16.00 ($2.00 PSSA Fees / $1.00 Town Bus / $13.00 Dorrigo PS Bus).
All competitors must wear footwear. Spiked Shoes are permitted except in the 1500m, 800m, shot put and discus. Competitors must wear school sports uniforms. Children should ensure they have a water bottle to remain hydrated and should wear a sun safe hat and sunscreen when not competing.
2025 Kindergarten Transition Program
We will be starting our kindergarten transition program this Wednesday 31 July to welcome our 2025 Kindergarten students to our wonderful school.
Education Week - "Proud to Belong"
During Week 3, we are celebrating public education in NSW. This year’s theme is: "Proud to Belong". Public Education Week is a time for all of us to feel "proud to belong", sharing our pride in being part of NSW public education and the achievements of our students and staff.
Public Education Week is when we celebrate and acknowledge all those who contribute to our children and young people’s educational journey. School staff, parents and carers, community leaders and P&C associations all play an important role in our students' education.
Combined Schools Science Day
Dundurrabin PS will be hosting a combined schools Science Day here next week, Tuesday 6 August. We are excited to be welcoming students from Hernani Public School for a day of science, fun and friendships.
A lunch order form was sent home again today for those who have not return theirs. Please return it tomorrow if you wish your child/ren to order.
Crazy Hair Day - Thursday 8 August
Ready to go crazy! On Thursday 8 August we will have a Crazy Hair Day gold coin fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis.
Students may come to school dressed in red clothes (official CF colour) and with the craziest hair they can think of: teased, coloured, gelled, twisted, wigs and scarves, punk or just plain messy!
Cystic fibrosis (also called CF) is the most common, life limiting genetic condition affecting Australians. 3,500 people are living with CF in Australia and 1 in 25 people carry the recessive CF gene change. 1 in 2,500 babies in Australia are born with CF, both parents must carry the recessive gene. There is no cure for this mortal disease which affects the lungs and digestive system. Cystic Fibrosis NSW is there to support children and young adults with CF.

Week 1 - Term 3
In cooking we cooked creamy pumpkin soup, crispy Indian spiced leek fritters and smashed parmesan crusted roasted turnips. Yum!
We harvested pumpkins, eggs, garlic chives, leek, shallots, turnips and parsley.
Cooking Award: Congratulations to Amber Baff, for amazing persistence and turnip squashing!
NAIDOC Day on the Plateau
We had an incredible day at Dorrigo High on Wednesday 3 July. All Dorrigo Plateau schools came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week. The day was filled with inspiring stories and many cultural activities. We certainly enjoyed this special occasion.
Highlights from our Term 2 Assembly
Our Term 2 assembly certainly showcased our learning. The K-2 students read their descriptive writing about ants and the 3-6 students shared their book reviews on the books they have been reading for the Premiers Reading Challenge.
We then had the privilege of listening to a whole school musical performance of 'You Are My Sunshine' played on the marimbas and boom whackers.
It was wonderful to see so many parents attend. Thank you for joining us.
Highlights from our Term 2 Adults V Students Jenga Game
Unfortunately due to the weather we had to shuffle our outside sport for some inside Jenga games. It was exciting to watch parents and students carefully and skilfully remove the blocks without tumbling the tower. After two games it was tied one all, so a third decider game was needed. With much excitement from the parents, they walked away being our Term 2 winners. Congratulations to all competitors!
Banqer- The World of Financial Literacy
In Semester 2, the 3-6 class are beginning to use the website Banqer as our new reward and behaviour management system. The students are enjoying learning about financial literacy and earning money for attendance, doing class jobs and great learning behaviours. While there are fun parts of Banqer, the students are also learning about paying rent and fines for poor behaviour choices, lateness and incorrect uniform to help them understand the real world of finance. Ask your child what they learnt on Banqer today!
Gumbaynggirr Language Learning
In Lesley's language lessons we continue to learn words for different landscapes and animals.
Tennis
On Friday morning for sport we had a visit from Allan from the Harbour Tennis Academy. He will be coaching our students for the next five Fridays in Tennis, thanks to our Sporting Schools grant. Students had great fun working on their tennis skills.
To Space and Beyond
Students have been learning about space in STEM lessons with Ms Cunningham- with a creative arts twist! Here they painted their own interpretation of the universe. To infinity and beyond!
Gubi Gabun Playgroup at Dundurrabin PS
Book Week Parade - Term 3
We will be holding our Book Week Parade on Tuesday 20 August. This year's Book week theme is "Reading is Magic". The Book parade will start at 9:15am. Parents, carers and friends are invited to attend.
Our school theme this year is 'Harry Potter'. The school will be known as Hogwarts for the day, and we invite students to dress as a Harry Potter character. Dumbledore looks forward to welcoming you all!
Year 3-6 STEM Incursion
On Monday 26 August our 3-6 students will be participating in two STEM workshops delivered by Engineers Without Borders here at school from 12.30pm to 3.00pm. It will certainly be a fun and interactive afternoon for all.
A Permission to Publish Consent form is being sent home with your child/ren to be filled out, signed and returned to school by next Monday 5 August. This form is to give permission for photos to be taken during the workshops and used for Engineers Without Borders marketing materials. Please phone the school if you would like anymore information about the consent.
Years 5 & 6 - Lake Ainsworth Excursion
Some of our Year 5 & 6 students will be joining with Dorrigo Public School for an excursion to Lake Ainsworth from September 16 to September 20, 2024 (Week 9).
The total cost of the excursion is $646.00 per student. The school will contribute $100 towards the cost per student, reducing the remaining cost to $546.00 per student.
Raffle tickets were sent home at the end of last term with children attending the excursion. Tickets can be sold to help raise money to fund the excursion. Please do not lose these as they will need to be returned to school sold or unsold. The money your child raises will be deducted from their cost of the excursion. This is a great opportunity to help fund the excursion as well as the chance to win some fantastic prizes.
If anyone wishes to purchase some tickets in the below raffle, please let us know. We have some spare tickets for sale at school.
Families may wish to make weekly payment contributions towards the excursion as suits. Please remember the full cost of the excursion must be paid by Monday 9 September (in 6 weeks time). More information and notes as we receive them.
