Principal's Message
SAS Recognition Week- this week
This week we celebrate our wonderful school support staff. It is an opportunity for our school community to acknowledge the efforts of our admin, classroom and grounds staff members. We are fortunate to have such a vibrant and dedicated team here at Dundurrabin who go above and beyond for our students every day. A special thanks to Melissa, Katherine, Suzie, Leanne, Chris and Glenn for all that you do to make our school the special place that it is.
K-2 Authors- Facebook and Instagram Superstars
Earlier this term our K-2 class and Mrs Sangster wrote and illustrated their very own book based on the works of Mo Willems; 'Don't Let the Pigeon Cook'. They were learning about dialogue, onomatopoeia, persuasive techniques, and reading with expression. This book has made the public stage and was shared by the official Department of Education social media team last week. How Exciting! Be sure to check out this great work on either Facebook or Instagram.

Every Day Matters
Attendance Matters

Attendance Reminder-Late Arrivals & Early Departures
If your child/ren arrive late to school in the morning, please remember to sign them in the register book in the office. Check-in Assessments
Dear parents and carers,
During Term 3 students in years 3-6 will participate in the Check-in assessment. The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning. The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.
- The assessments will be scheduled for our Year 3-6 students during weeks 6 to 9.
- All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing assessment.
Please call the school if you have any questions.
North Coast Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to Nikita and our Relay Team, Odie, Jack, Jaxon and Bailey who competed at the Mid North Coast Athletics Carnival recently.
Nikita came first in all her events (11yrs long jump, discus, shot put and 200m race) and has qualified for the next level of competition at the North Coast Athletics Championships Carnival at Lismore on Friday 6 September.
Our relay team were amazing and placed second, however due to other commitments our relay team will not attend the next level of competition.
Book Week Parade
Last week, we celebrated Book Week with a spellbinding twist! Our students transformed into beloved characters from Harry Potter and other special stories, fostering a love for reading and igniting their imaginations! Following our parade, Mrs Sangster read the winning 2024 Picture Book of the Year "Every Night at Midnight" by Peter Cheong.
SAS Recognition Week
This week is SAS week. Every year the Public Service Association organises SAS (School Administrative and
Support Staff) Recognition Week to acknowledge the vital role that SAS Staff play in our schools across NSW. Recognition Week is an opportunity to show these staff that they are appreciated for the important role they play within the school whether they work in the office, the library, in the school grounds, in a classroom setting or in other roles. This acknowledges the work of all SAS Staff, General Assistants, School Psychologists, Student Support Officers and other classifications. This week we thank Katherine, Suzie, Leanne, Chris, Glenn and Melissa for the truly wonderful work they do to ensure the smooth operation of our school. THANK YOU!
2025 Kindergarten Transition Program
Our next kindergarten transition program will be this Wednesday 28 August to welcome our 2025 Kindergarten students to our wonderful school.
P&C Special Lunch Day - this Thursday
We are very lucky to be having another Special Lunch day this Thursday 29 August.

Crazy Hair Day
We all enjoyed coming to school on Thursday 15 August with our crazy hair styles. Mrs Keough and Ms McNeill had fun applying colourful hairspray to students hair and Nikita, our the Year 6 student, enjoyed hair spraying all the hair of staff members. Thank you to everyone who donated. We raised $78.00 for Cystic Fibrosis. Well done.

Arrangements for the upcoming 2024-2025 bushfire season
Dear Parents, Carers and the Dundurrabin Public School Community,
I am writing to you to inform you of our emergency management arrangements for the upcoming bushfire danger period.
Our school is in a bushfire prone area and is identified as Category 1 on the NSW Department of Education’s bushfire risk register.
This means our school will be non-operational when the NSW Rural Fire Service declares catastrophic fire danger ratings for our area or as directed by the NSW Department of Education in consultation with emergency services due to local bushfire activity or in higher risk conditions.
Fire danger ratings do not mean there will be a bushfire, but rather the weather conditions pose a high risk if a fire were to start in the area. The measure is proactive to ensure staff, students and the community remain safe.
We will inform the school community after 4 pm if there is a change to the operational status of the school for the following day. To assist us in contacting all families in an emergency, please ensure you have updated your contact details with the school.
We recommend you download the NSW Education Parent App and select to monitor advice from our school which send you notifications if the school is non-operational. Up-to-date information is also available on our school website or School operational status.
We also recommend you stay up to date with bushfire and grassfire activity by using the Hazards Near Me app (set a watch zone for your school area) and by monitoring local media.
We recommend all our families follow the NSW Rural Fire Service advice and ensure your family knows what to do if there is a fire. Develop a fire plan and discuss it with your family using MyFirePlan.
Please call our school on 0266578133 if you would like more information or have any questions.

To Infinity and Beyond
This term in STEM, students are exploring the vast expanse of space. We are learning about everything from the Big Bang Theory to Galaxies, Stars and the Planets within the Solar System.
The students will be investigating the attributes of each planet and reflecting upon what make Our Home, Planet Earth, so unique and special.
Gumbaynggirr language
Students have been learning about animals and actions. We are starting to put together our knowledge of actions, animals and places into sentences or longer phrases.
Wet weather street hockey fun
Students had some wet weather sport fun during our rainy weather playing street hockey under the cola. First K-2 versed Mr Williamson in a challenging game followed by 3-6 versing each other. Fun was had by all.
Gubi Gabun Playgroup at Dundurrabin PS
Years 5 & 6 - Lake Ainsworth Excursion
Some of our Year 5 & 6 students will be joining with Dorrigo Public School for an excursion to Lake Ainsworth from September 16 to September 20, 2024 (Week 9).
The total cost of the excursion is $646.00 per student. The school will contribute $100 towards the cost per student and the Dorrigo Rotary Club kindly donated $50.00 per student for this excursion. Since the last newsletter the Dorrigo Lions Club has also kindly donated money towards this excursion. This will result in the cost of the excursion being less. When we have the amount, we will let parents know.
Raffle tickets were sent home at the end of last term with children attending the excursion. Tickets can be sold to help raise money to fund the excursion. Please do not lose these as they will need to be returned to school sold or unsold. The money your child raises will be deducted from their cost of the excursion. This is a great opportunity to help fund the excursion as well as the chance to win some fantastic prizes.
If anyone wishes to purchase some tickets in the below raffle, please let us know. We have some spare tickets for sale at school.
Please ensure all students return their raffle tickets and money back to school this Friday 30 August.
Families may wish to make weekly payment contributions towards the excursion as suits. Please remember the full cost of the excursion must be paid by Monday 9 September (in 2 weeks time).
Thank you to all families for completing the online camp registration information.
Term 3 Assembly & Sports Afternoon
Please join us on Thursday 26 September at 2pm for our Term 3 Assembly. Students will present some of their
learning from the term followed by a skipping extravaganza. After assembly we will be holding a Parents verse Students friendly sporting event. Please come along and join the fun. The students love getting the chance to play against the adults.
Bookclub Issue 6
Bookclub Issue#6 brochure is being sent home today. If you wish to place an order from this issue, please have
your loop online order completed or your order forms and money (cash) back at school by Wednesday 4 September.
