Principal's Message

Welcome to week 11- the final week of school for term 1.
I am excited to invite you to our Assembly this Wednesday afternoon, where we will come together to celebrate the wonderful learning achievements of our students this term. It’s a fantastic opportunity to recognise their hard work. The assembly will also include our Easter hat parade and a parent vs student game of tag league.
ANZAC Learning
This Thursday, we will welcome Digger Jim McLeod from the Dorrigo RSL Sub-branch, who will speak to us about ANZAC Day. Jim's insights and experiences will provide our students with a deeper understanding of the significance of this important day in our nation's history.
Harmony Day Lunch
We will celebrate Harmony Day this Friday with a special Asian-inspired lunch, doubling as an end-of-term treat! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to embrace diversity and learn about different cultures. In the spirit of Harmony Day, we encourage all students to wear orange as a symbol of inclusiveness and unity. We look forward to a fun and festive day together, celebrating our vibrant school community.
Happy Holidays!
As we approach the end of the term, I would like to thank all families for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable holiday break. Happy Easter to you and your families!
Students return to school for term 2 on Wednesday 30 April.
Leah Keough

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden News
Week 9
As the rain continued to fall this week, our learners had the opportunity to be creative once again with a kitchen garden art activity.
We harvested shallots, eggs, butter beans, purple beans, cucamelons, tomatoes, zucchinis, capsicums and corn.
This week in the kitchen, we made oven baked corn ribs, Mexican flavoured rice, Mexican inspired zuchinni bake, corn chips, fresh corn salsa and banana muffins. We also made a cucamelon pickle, our very first entry for this year's Dorrigo Show.
This week, the cooking award goes to Tom Duckett for careful and precise cutting, layering, stiring and measuring. Congratulations!

Week 10
This week, the ground was too wet to garden so we extended our physical activity lesson instead.
We harvested butter beans, purple bush beans, cucamelons, shallots, carrots, zucchini, capsicum, kale and lettuce.
In the kitchen we made gozleme, with homemade dough, stuffed with a savoury spiced zucchini mix, spinach and two cheeses, corn ribs (since they were so popular last week!), hummus and crackers from scratch, served with carrot sticks and beans from the garden, a sumac and lemon dressed green salad, and a banana and caramel self- saucing pudding for dessert.
This week the cooking award goes to Henry Tyler, for being a fully engaged, enthusiastic learner, exceptional role model, and a responsible cook. Very impressive!
3-6 Learning Snapshots: Writing Multimodal Texts
In our recent English unit of work "Leila and the Blue Fox", students in years 3-6 engaged in a creative writing project focused on raising awareness about the importance of saving polar bears. They explored and created multimodal texts, incorporating informative facts, visuals, and social media elements to create impactful messages. These multimodal texts not only showcased their writing and research skills but also fostered a sense of responsibility and advocacy for the environment. We are proud of their efforts and the creativity they displayed in raising awareness about such an important issue.

Ride2School Day
Despite the wet weather, we enjoyed a fantastic afternoon filled with bikes and scooters! The enthusiasm of our students was truly infectious, and it was wonderful to see them making the most of the day.
What a ride it was! The smiles and laughter echoed as they zoomed around, demonstrating their skills and enjoying the camaraderie of their peers. It was a great opportunity for physical activity and fun, regardless of the rain!

Buzzing with Ideas: Insect Creations
Our students have been crawling into the fascinating world of living things by creating models of insects! This hands-on project has allowed them to explore the characteristics of various insects while fostering their creativity and scientific understanding.

Peer Power: Unleashing Reading Potential
Each Friday we kick start the day with a peer reading session. Our littlest learners love sharing their stories with their bigger buddies. It's wonderful to see the older students support and encourage their younger peers as they explore the world of books together.

The Big Vegie Crunch
Last Thursday, 3 April, we participated in "The Big Vegie Crunch", and what a scrumptious event it was! Our students had a great time crunching on cut-up carrots dipped in hummus, promoting healthy eating and the joys of fresh vegetables.

Gubi Gabun - This Wednesday 9 April
